Look Good, Feel Good – Looking after the Temple of the Lord

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Good health is a gift from God and is obtained by following biblical principles as we lead a balanced life physically, mentally and spiritually. The first step in obtaining victory over our lives is to exercise mastery over our bodies and ourselves.

You are to work towards self-control in all things (1 Cor 9:25), especially consumption of food (Matt 6:25) and the use of alcoholic beverages (Eph. 5:18). You are to avoid gluttony (Prov. 23:20). Stress control, a moderate diet an exercise are keys to total fitness (Phil. 4:6,7).

First and foremost, we are not to satisfy our selfish and harmful appetites but rather to use our bodies to bring glory to God.

Practicing healthy living and self- control can glorify God and make you more effective in your daily walk with him as well as relationship with others. When you feel good, we usually have more energy and enthusiasm to share with family and friends.

We should enjoy food as we need it, making health selections and suitable portion sizes, remembering that in so doing, we honour Him who has chosen our bodies to be His Temple.

Taking care of our physical body, the lord’s temple, is a balancing act: You must attempt to achieve physical wellness and fitness without becoming self- consumed in your approach.
